Work in progress

Warning: this blog contains swearing, lovespam, snakes, discussions of sexual assault and rape culture, some angsting, and some SJ activism.

Call me Anne. Or Nami. I answer to either. I'm in college, queer, slowly making my way through life and adulthood and trying not to freak out too much about it, and generally doing that whole "finding yourself" thing that's supposed to happen during your teenage years. I seem to have gotten something of a late start, so bear with me as I cram it all in. I'm both willing to meet and talk to people, and extremely shy about actually approaching them, so don't hesitate if you want to talk. I don't bite, honest.

So I had a mtf!Tonks dream last night

ll0che:

It was about Tonks and like…about when she was growing up she would always make her appearance to be a girl but her parents did the whole “BUT YOU’RE OUR SON” bullshit because when she was born she was AMAB and shit.

And then it sort of skipped into the future to the fact that since she didn’t actually require hormones and surgery or any other sort of physical transition helper thingies, her paperwork still said “M” on it

[I understand that since she’s a witch she can just you know…change it.  But that couldn’t happen for some reason during the dream so shuddup.]

and this caused lots of incidents of her getting accused of using a fake ID or people being cissexist and angry little assholes.  And it was all very terrible.

And then her letter to Hogwarts came and it addressed her as “Mr” and she didn’t want to go because she thought she’d get put in a boy’s dormitory and everyone would think she was a freak and shit so she ripped up the letter and went to be sad.

But then Dumbledore knocked on the door and came in and was like “I understand you have some concerns about attending Hogwarts School of Whichcraft and Wizardry” and she told him and handed him the letter and he was like “I don’t understand what you’re talking about.  Right here, it says “Miss” and he handed it back to her and he was indeed correct.

And he did that thing where he acts as if he has no idea what she could possibly be talking about, of course he hadn’t done anything [like at the end of the Prisoner of Azkaban] and he smiles and so she knows that everything will be okay and that Hogwarts was gonna be awesome.

things i never got. when wormtail revives voldemort he uses one measly bone from the grave, and like three drops of harrys blood. BUT HE HAS TO FREAKING CHOP OFF HIS WHOLE HAND FOR IT TO WORK??? WTF???

Knowing Voldemort it would have worked with just a finger or something but he was feeling sadistic that day and told Wormtail that nothing less than a hand would do.

Dear coworkers,

Today was so totally not the best day to randomly not show up.

Seriously. It wasn’t.

If I fall over from lack of coffee/food, I’m blaming you. I’m also blaming you if my paper is late because it’s too busy here to focus on writing it. We’re ignoring the fact that I’ve had weeks to write this paper. That’s not important right now.

You’d better have a damn good excuse, is all I can say.

No love at all,

~Anne

So this wins the prize for best Rick Perry parody thing. Everyone else can go home now.

I just realized it’s been four months of HRT now. Not that long a time but at the same time mindblowing when I look back to how much the final week of waiting for the first shot dragged. It felt longer than the four months since. So I do want to mark it off a bit.

Few and subtle changes so far. My doctor says it’s because of how I’ve been eating very little (since most of the changes are due to facial and body fat moving around) but even so I think the overall effect from my face is changing, even if not enough to make me passable looking, and it makes me happier and eager for the future. So yay, thanks so much Cat and yadas and others for sticking with me. Time for the next four months.

[Two pictures of Alexis, one pre-HRT and one four months later. She looks beautiful in both pictures.]

Well hello there. <3

The U.S. is setting itself up for a very hard fall

Too poor to pay taxes? Burn, useless prole.

jonathan-cunningham:

A local family watches their home burn to the ground and just a few feet behind them, firefighters watch, too.

It’s happened multiple times before in one local community: firefighters refuse to respond because the homeowner didn’t pay a fire subscription fee.

The last time this happened, the city of South Fulton, Tennessee, received a lot of heat nationwide for this policy. That was more than a year ago but nothing has changed.

The mayor said it comes down to simple business. If they don’t collect fire fees, the fire department can’t survive and if they make exceptions to the rule, no one will ever pay the fee.

Besides that, he likes the “pay for spray” policy and said it’s fair.

But that’s hard to stomach when you’ve just lost your home and everything you’ve worked for.

“In an emergency, the first thing you think of, ‘Call 9-1-1,” homeowner Vicky Bell said.

Firefighters came out.

Bell said, “9-1-1 said they were in fact dispatched and they showed that they were on the scene.”

But once on the scene, they only watched.

“You could look out my mom’s trailer and see the trucks sitting at a distance,” Bell said.

For Bell, that sight was almost as disturbing as the fire itself.

“We just wished we could’ve gotten more out,” Bell said.

It’s a controversial policy that we’ve dealt with before. If you live in the city, you get fire protection but if not, you have to pay the $75 fire protection fee each year. With this policy, the city makes no exceptions.

Well, it took long enough, but our government has finally devolved into the same environment that lead Marcus Crassus to his wealth. Countdown until we start letting the poor die when they can’t afford healthcare. Whoops, I mean countdown until Police don’t have to answer calls from poor people. Whoops, I mean countdown until poor people get arrested for sending their kids to well funded schools

Well, damn. I’d like to write a ridiculous, hyperbolic sentence about the next step in our disenfranchisement of the poor, but I can’t even top reality.

Wow, talk about a return to 18th century values.

…oh my god…..

This is scary…

And people wonder why I’m so pessimistic about the future.

aauuuuggghhhhhh

How is this still a thing? Seriously, why is this still a thing?

America, I am disappoint.
